Plan de Corones
Holidays in Plan de Corones
Holidays in Plan de CoronesThe holiday area Plan de Corones (Kronplatz) lies between the Zillertaler Alps and the world famous lime bastions of the Dolomites. It comprises the lower Val Pusteria valley, Plan de Corones, the Valle di Marebbe valley, the Valle di Casies valley, the Valle d’Anterselva valley and the surroundings of Brunico. The Val Pusteria valley runs in west-east-direction and is accompanied by a sunny low range mountain terrace. Small villages and farms are embedded in vast pastures, framed by forested hillsides and low mountain ranges. In the middle of the holiday area, the basin of Brunico opens up with the picturesque town of Brunico. The vacation region is culturally rich and has many castles. The real attraction though, is the enchanting landscape in which the one or other old church and chapel provoke a picturesque accent. The museum of popular art in Dietenheim is very famous, it has a large open-air area with a few farms. The farm-steads are copied from the surroundings and were reconstructed true to the originals. In the holiday resort Plan de Corones we find three of the in all seven nature preserves in South Tyrol: the nature park Fanes-Sennes-Braies that is scientifically interesting for its geological rocks, the nature park Vedrette di Ries–Aurina that is one of the largest nature preserves in Europe with a unique flora and fauna and the nature park Puez-Odle, which is in possession of nearly all stone and rock types and can be used as object lesson for the formation of the Dolomites. In these ecologically intact mountain areas South Tyrol’s nature and landscape is put under special protection. During extensive hikes through the nature preserves you can discover the unique animal and plant species of this natural landscape. The summers are warm but not hot, other than on very few exceptional days. The magnificent winters are rich in snow and cold and allow ideal weather conditions in the ski resort Plan de Corones. The Plan de Corones with its 2.275 m is South Tyrol’s ski mountain number one and belongs to the Dolomiti Superski, the biggest skiing resort in the world with its 1.200 km of slopes and 12 wide-span skiing areas. The ski lifts of Plan de Corona directly connect the holiday resorts Riscone (Brunico), San Stefano (San Lorenzo), San Vigilio di Marebbe, Valdora and San Martino in Badia. The population of the wonderful Valle di Marebbe valley speak the Ladin language, an old Rhaeto-Romanic language. The Casies valley is well known for its magnificent natural landscape with its scattered original mountain farms. Every year during the Casies valley run and the Casies folk run hundreds of cross country skiing participants join in and attract thousands of spectators. Another cross country skiing centre is the Valle d’Anterselva valley with its annual biathlon competitions. In the summer the Valle d’Anterselva valley is a popular destination for families. |
